Shelter / Non food items

The provision of an accountable, predictable and reliable emergency response to all effected populations in need of shelter and non food items in South /Central Somalia.
Shelter and basic non food items provide the bedrock of recovery from the shock of displacement and offer an early relief from disaster. Without the foundation of suitable shelter affected populations the chances of protection basic human dignity are reduced, health is compromised, the ability to cope with poor nutrition is diminished and it is increasingly difficult to improve lives at the settlements.

The ARD’s strategy contains three pillars which reflect the different shelter needs:

  • Emergency response: enhancing the capacity of the ARD’s to respond to new displacement in a timely, transparent and accountable manner.
  • Support for durable solutions: when conditions are conducive, support voluntary return to place of origin or voluntary relocation, as well as assisting with settlement planning and realization.

What we do!

As a result of the conflict, there has also been a debilitating effect on the Youth & women, especially in relation to their education & general social lives (respectively). Being THE integral part of implementing objectives above, there needs to be a special focus on rehabilitating & educating the Youth & Women.

The search for (& availability of) this precious commodity is – paradoxically so – one of the major sources of conflict (when scarce) & yet the most natural unifying resources (when equitably available). ARD lays special emphasis on the latter, since it will create a conducive environment for the above objectives to be implemented.
